In A LADY OF SECRET DEVOTION by Tracie Peterson, the last in the Ladies of Liberty series, we meet Cassandra Stover. The financial stress she, her mother, and young sister has felt after the death of her father has weighed heavy on Cassie. A chance meeting in a park becomes an answered prayer when Mrs. Jameston hires Cassie as her companion. A life of opulence and luxury and the growing bond Cassie feels for Mrs. Jameston is soon tarnished when Sebastian, Mrs. Jameston's derelict son comes home with a bullet wound, a friend, and a fiendish attraction for Cassie. Sebastian's cruel words of resentment towards his mother soon turn to threats, threats that Cassie is all too certain Sebastian might make good on.
When Mark Langford, an insurance investigator, suspects Sebastian of fraud and possible murder, he enlists Cassie help to find out what she can about Sebastian's business practices. Under the guise of a courting relationship, Mark begins to spend considerable time with Cassie.
Cassie agrees with Mark's covert plan because of her concern for Mrs. Jameston, but soon finds her feelings turning from make believe to something more.
I really enjoyed A LADY OF SECRET DEVOTION. The characters were well defined and the plot fresh and unique. The relationship between Cassie and Mrs. Jameston is touching, and you soon feel Cassie's angst regarding the safety of her new companion. A quick read I thoroughly enjoyed.

This series of books kept me totally involved so I read the book in like 2 days and when I was done it left me wanting to read more.

I thought "A Lady of Secret Devotion" an entirely delightful story. It is so important not to be unequally yolked, and the story tells how God can work out all of the details in order to bring about many circumstances. Whether it is bringing the man you care for into a relationship with Him, or keeping you safe from unwanted attention and protection. Tracy Peterson uses her gift of writing to proclaim God's love for us all without doing it in a preachy way. She shows us ways to be in God's will by simple example. I would recommend this book along with the other two in the Ladies of Liberty series, "A Lady of High Regard" and "A Lady of Hidden Intent". They were books you don't want to put down until you come to the end, which is always too soon.
