4 out of 5 stars Nice escape for one story (4 stars). Only ok for second story (3 stars).   March 14, 2008

God of Fire by Jaid Black (4 stars):
Fun and enjoyable. This was one of the first stories Jaid wrote and is a little less explicit than her later works. The gods are being mischievous among themselves. They bring Dara from the future 2003 to Ragnar, a Viking in 820 AD. He needs to get her pregnant within 3 months to meet the gods' requests. It was a nice escape for romance and sex.

Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: sixteen. Setting 2003 Ohio US and 820 AD Norway. Copyright: 2000. Genre: time travel and paranormal romance.

Kieran The Black by Julia Templeton (3 stars):
Ok story, but it was lacking in emotional fulfillment for me. There were a lot of sex scenes, but they were pretty similar to each other. I like erotic stories but I prefer those which have something else like laughter, surprise, witty conversation, anticipation of an emotional relationship or feelings of fulfillment. This story was missing something for me.

Story brief: Current day Lizzie time travels to 1067 where she finds herself as the wife of Kieran the Black. The wife she replaced hated him and was still a virgin. She flirts with Kieran and his knights. She initiates sex with him. They have a great relationship. She tries to prevent his early death by warning him that he will be killed by his own knight Hugh.

Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: twelve. Setting: current day and 1067 England. Copyright: 2003. Genre: erotic time travel romance.

4 out of 5 stars Two that sizzle   April 5, 2007
In Warrior, Jaid Black and Julia Templeton present a pair of erotic time travel novels that sizzle with sensuality as they capture reader interest.

Templeton's Kieran the Black catapults our 39-year-old modern heroine Lizzie, an unhappy journalist betrayed by her former husband, into 1067 England, where she is suddenly inside the body of Lady Elizabeth, an 18-year-old Saxon maid forced to marry her Norman conqueror Kieran the Black. While the real Elizabeth despised the handsome and high-principled warrior, Lizzie is impressed by his kindness, integrity, and overwhelmingly arousing huge physical presence. She soon wins him over with her refreshing humor and audacity as well as her considerable feminine charms, and they embark on a passionate relationship. But can she save him from the traitorous death that was to be his fate?

Templeton takes a fun premise and weaves a fast-paced story with likeable characters and plenty of action. She also evokes a believable feeling of medieval life while showing the fascinating way a modern woman might survive and even flourish in such an environment. Kieran the Black is a thoroughly likable and engaging sensual romp.

Black's God of Fire is another passionate time-travel treat, a fairy tale that whisks unhappy modern Dara back to 820 Norway where she is forced to marry irresistible hunk Ragnar Valkraad. Ragnar, a powerful warrior capable of deep affection, has been ordered by the goddess Frigg to marry Dara and within one year to have a child, or no more warriors will be allowed into Valhalla, the god Odin's warrior heaven. Frigg, furious with her philandering husband Odin, has hatched a vengeful scheme to keep his beloved warriors out of Valhalla, since Ragnar appears to be infertile. But Ragnar's never met anyone as appealing as Dara, and Dara has never met anyone as arousing as Ragnar. Their growing relationship is the most passionate and all-consuming of their lives. Yet Dara's determination to run away may destroy their emerging love.

This engaging story is highly charged with erotic tension and colorful images. Black's sense of humor makes the story even more delightful. The only problem is dizzying switches in character point of view, as often as every paragraph, can confuse the reader and take her out of the story. Still, Black has, as usual, fashioned a winning tale that combines an appealing premise with voluptuous sensuality.

4 out of 5 stars Loved Kieran the Black!   April 5, 2005

I found myself in a frustrating dilemma: a lot of books, but nothing to read. I wanted a light read to give balance to the more literary book I was reading at the time -- something that I always do. But when I picked up a book I flung it aside almost immediately because it had failed to spark my interest. Then I saw the Warrior anthology and decided to give it a whirl. I loved Julia Templeton's Kieran the Black! This time-travel novella is about a thirty-nine-year-old divorcee's journey from the present time to the year 1067. The history enthusiast had no idea what to expect when a strange woman asked her to hold Kieran the Black's sword, but she hadn't anticipated waking up in Lady Elizabeth's eighteen-year-old body! Not only is she alive during a time period that had always fascinated her, but she is young and beautiful again and is the wife of the gorgeous warrior Kieran the Black. She will enjoy the company of the insatiable man and try to change the course of history by saving him from getting murdered by the leader of Saxon. There are various delectable scenes and twists throughout the novella.

The one thing I did not like about Kieran the Black was Lizzie's reaction to waking up in another time. The whole "I woke up in 1067 in the body of a young, beautiful, and thin woman -- cool!" thing is too unrealistic for words, no matter how much she likes history and how unhappy she had been in her previous life. There should have been a little culture and time period shock at least! Other than that, I loved the story of Lizzie and Kieran and the sex scenes were wonderfully erotic. Kieran sounded delicious! The Warrior book comes with two novellas, and the other one is God of Fire by Jaid Black. The moment I read the opening sentence of the aforementioned novella I knew I wouldn't get into it. I gave up on it after reading the first chapter. That is all I will say about the novella, for it wouldn't be fair to review a story I hadn't read. Alas, this is the first Jaid Black story that didn't grab me and that surprised me. Anyway, I recommend Warrior, if only for Julia Templeton's juicy novella. It certainly put an end to my reading rut, at least for now!

Kieran the black & God of fire both timetravels & fantastic. Very hot, very enjoyable reads. 2 modern-day women are sent back in time to medievil Britain & the Viking era.

Keiran the black is just perfect, hot, sizzling & tenderness.

Jaid black's story God of fire is very typical of her works that I have read so far with the exception of "The possession". I am reading the Trek Mi Quan series at the moment.

I look forward to reading more of Julia Templeton's books in future.
