Exactly what I needed! February 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After meeting with our officiant, and not being thrilled with the ceremony scripts she had in mind, I stopped by the bookstore. I browsed through about 10 different vow-writing books, and ultimately decided on this one. Boy! I'm glad I did! This book helped me craft every aspect of our ceremony, and helped me feel like the words spoken on our wedding day meant something to us. This book had sections for every type of service, and with a little cutting and pasting, we had some beautiful words to join us in marriage. I highly recommend this book if you want to have a hand in the wording of your wedding ceremony.
The only book you need to help you plan your wedding ceremony February 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I came across this wonderful book in my local bookstore, burst into tears reading it, and bought it on the spot. Rev. Johnson's message, tone and suggestions spoke right to my heart and are unlike anything else I've seen out there in wedding la-la land.
My fiance and I are in the midst of planning our wedding now. Before I read this book, we didn't know where to begin even thinking about the ceremony. There are so many books out there about planning the reception, but so few that focus on the most important part - the ceremony. This book is full of great ideas and beautiful words to say for weddings of all shapes, sizes and persuasions. It's given us a great template to use with our officiant in creating a meaningful ceremony that truly reflects who we are.
Erased any jitters I had and replaced them with the perfect plan October 11, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was a first time officiant about to perform the wedding of two dear friends. I was nervous. Who did I think I was to perform a wedding? I knew I had the credentials, but did I have what it takes?
Under the tutelage of this phenomenal guidebook, I found that I did.
Part One didn't have anything to do with my part of the wedding, but the information is invaluable. It sets the context for the ceremony. Who is involved, where the wedding is, what intention do the bride and groom have for there special day, what is the tone they want to create... that sort of thing.
Part Two was all about the ceremony, in other words - my stuff. In these pages, Judith Johnson laid it all out succinctly while at the same time gave me many ideas. I got a blueprint and a variety of ways to bring that blueprint to life. Reading this section really boosted my confidence.
Part Three included the nitty gritty of weaving all of this together. It gave samples and suggestions, fleshing out some of Part Two and offering the expertise of Johnson's many years of experience.
I know this is a reference book I will refer to over and over and over again. I will recommend it to both officiants and couples alike.
Excellent resource for personalizing your ceremony July 7, 2007 This book along with Henry Basayne's book was all I needed to create a beautiful heartfelt ceremony with my (then) fiance. Our guests were so touched by the way our ceremony captured our feelings and personalities. I highly recommend it.
the only book to get if you are writing your vows! June 8, 2007 A friend of ours gave me this book recently in response to my general panic regarding writing and planning our ceremony and vows. It's been the most helpful resource I've had during this process so far, clearly defining and separating each part of the ceremony itself (backtracking to include choosing a spot and participants) while giving clear guidelines, options and the ability to mix and match depending upon the sentiment and emotional goals. There's noting preachy, chiched or trite about Judith Johnson's writing or approach. I'm looking forward to passing it along to our other engaged friends once we are married!
