The last 112 pages of this book contains lists of vendors July 28, 2006 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
My first disappointment with this book was that out of 348 pages, the last 112 pages are credits, acknowledgements, and pages upon pages of vendor lists ranging from calligraphy to ethnic artifacts. I could not believe when I got to page 236, the credits began! My disappointment was complete when I turned to the Winter section. I am having a winter wedding and thought this book might provide some ideas on winter wedding receptions. Not so... The chapter focuses on a single home wedding. I had hoped the book would cover pictures and ideas of multiple wedding receptions. I was so disappointed that I wrote this review. It's the first and only review of a book I've ever written. Don't waste your money on this one.
Whimsical, refreshing, inspiring . . . April 27, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
. . . just a few words to describe this book. Like her other books, The Perfect Wedding Reception is NOT a how-to book. Nor does it suggest that you have to do everything within its pages. Instead Maria gives us ideas and sparks our imagination so we can create a wedding that is classy, elegant, and fun!
Sure, it would cost a fortune to plan a wedding that is exactly like something out of these pages, but how can we find inspiration (and avoid a "cookie cutter" wedding) if we don't dare to dream big? Dare to pick one or two ideas from this book that you like, and use them. If they're on a grand scale, pare them down to suit your tastes and budget.
As ever, the photography is beautiful.
My only complaint is the large resources section - 100 pages that a vast majority of brides will never use.
Great Tool April 2, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Myself working in the Hospitality Industry have used this book several times when talking to clients to give them some ideas during sells talks. For professionals and those who want to make their special day a bit more special, a most! Great value for price.
Perfection! February 23, 2005 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
As a second-time bride, this was the book that "did it" for me. My October wedding reception, while not the exact replica of Ms. McBride-Mellinger's, incorporated as many of her ideas as I could. This is an absolutely beautiful book which will be an inspiration to any bride to be that wants a classy, memorable wedding befitting her chosen season. The settings, invitations, floral designs, cakes, and small touches are unique and certainly can be "scaled down" for those on a smaller budget. Not the end-all, be-all catalogue of a bridal book...but a digestable and exquisite source of inspiration.
Beautiful pictures, but not enough different weddings May 21, 2004 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
This book has wonderful pictures of four weddings, one in each season. The pictures are truly extraordinary, but they are almost exclusively of these four weddings, so there aren't tons of different ideas for each season, rather one "theme" idea for each season. One thing that disappointed me was that her summer wedding was a casual one on the beach, so if you want more formal ideas for a summer wedding you are out of luck. Like other reviewers have said, most of these perfect presentations would be completely out of a lot of people's price range, but you could definitely pull a few ideas that you loved from her spreads and make it work on a smaller budget. By and large this is a good supplementary book on reception ideas, with tons of photos and some good "idea" text (as opposed to "how-to" text.)
