The perfect adventure companion December 21, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Excellent and thorough book about adventure in Kauai. It's amazing that for such a small island there are a plethora of things to do and see. I read the entire book before I left for Hawai'i and felt marginally intimidated by the specificity the authors spent on directions, but found, when I arrived, that there was nothing to worry about. It's an easy island to navigate. Great book. The authors are locals and give you thorough disclosure about everything from hiking, biking, kayaking and surfing to restaurants and B&Bs. It's my first choice for any Hawaiian guide.
Great ideas. December 16, 2007 A winner in every category. Our most fun Hawaiian escape so far. Truly recommended!!!

Prospective travelers to Kauai should know that this book was first published in 2000 and is now on it's second edition, fourth printing 2007 here on Amazon.com. Inside is a huge collection of excursions, from dirt trail to deep water, that inspired us to get up and going each and every day. The swimming was extaordinary, water so clear with big colorful schools of fish at the Ke'e lagoon. There were umpteen sites listed and rated, the only cost was gas and our peppy little compact that got us to the various trailheads (driving + parking directions right on). The day we were in Wailua, we were able to hit Nawiliwili Harbor, Wailua Falls, the lighthouse, Fern Grotto and swim at Lydgate Park and Kalapaki Bay all in one day because the book is intellligently organized according to map sections.
Hawaii is now a bargain compared to Europe and Kauai has whetted our appetite for the other islands that must be just as exciting to visit. Since we're not hardcore hikers we took the easy trails and were totally wowed by the Pihea Overlook which suited us perfectly at 2 miles roundtrip. The clouds flling the valley then clearing provided a great photo op. Bring your wide angle lens and binoculars. The scene now sits on my desk. Highly recommend this vacation guide. Go before it gets spoiled.E Ala E
Kauai revisited September 21, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been to Kauai several times. The information in this guide led us to some places on the island we had not been to on our prior visits. The book has excellent suggestions on which beaches are safer than others. We did not try the hikes however.
Kauai on a budget August 1, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We own all their other Hawaiian books and buy them because we go there to experience the astounding beauty and perfect climate. It's a real getaway, a peaceful place.
The trail descriptions incorporating the history, the level of difficulty and landmarks makes this one of the best resources on the market. Oh and there are photos so you know where you're going. And it doesn't break the bank, the four of us stayed in a time share and ate in. The listings in the book just require energy and time which we had plenty of. There were no fees attached to any of the activities. We found all the descriptions very accurate and will stick with these Hawaii specialists for subsequent visits.
