5 out of 5 stars How not to feel alone when planning your wedding   October 31, 2008
I'm planning mu wedding right now, and my family is driving me crazy. This book is wonderful - it lists hundreds of awful scenarios and how to cope with them. Some of these scenarios are so bad! Reading about them makes me feel less alone in this experience, and makes me feel grateful that I don't have to endure some really awful scenarios. And all of them teach some important take-aways: 1) That everyone, not just you, goes through a transition when you get married, 2) That all the crap that families normally successfully ignore will come to the surface at this time, 3) That you can't change other people, but you yourself can be gracious and positive and choose not to let it get to you.

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as it sounds   April 28, 2006

Instead of buying this book, I went to the library to check it out and after reading the other reviews, I was very disappointed. This book has little to do with "sanity saving" it's mostly just letters of unique situations written to the author of this book. He replies with common sense advice and even sometimes advice that "beats around the bush" (indirect advice). For the average healthy bride I recommend reading the book by the Knot (don't remember what it is called but it has "The Knot" in the title). I also got that at the library and it has absolutely everything! No need to get another book. It offers real "sanity saving" advice and some real life stories for all situations. But if I have to say something positive about the other book, it does have a cute cover... but thats about it.

"Wedding Sanity Savers" is a must read for anybody who is planning a wedding or needs an engagement or shower gift. I've read it and am recommending it all new brides who need to get through everything from pre-wedding jitters to dealing with divorced parents, money and those testy bridesmaids. In fact, last week I saw Dr. Atkins, one of the co-authors, on the Today show talking about in-laws. I wish this book had been around when I was getting married!

This book should be required reading for anyone involved in a wedding - brides, grooms, parents, wedding parties - just everyone! Hearing others' stories and the expert advice that Dr. Atkins has for them is beyond helpful. After reading the book, which is a page-turner by the way, I feel like I'm equipped to handle any wedding situation that comes my way. If you know a stressed out bride - overnight her a copy ASAP!
