Amazon.com Review
Other wedding books may be filled with luscious color pictures, but virtually none are more practical than this no-nonsense, information-packed volume. Excellent summaries cover everything from budgeting and organizing basics to hiring all necessary personnel; planning the invitations, ceremony, reception, and honeymoon; and even handling wills and prenuptial agreements. But the most enticing feature is the wealth of worksheets, making it a cinch to keep track of it all in one easy-to-use format. The large, spiral-bound presentation means you can use the checklists and fill-in forms right in the book (as opposed to photocopying them) to record information on wedding attire, rings, invitation responses, gift lists, potential jewelers, caterers, florists, and photographers, name change and health records, and much more. There's also advice on handling such tricky situations as family portraits with divorced parents, writing your own vows, and honeymoon complications (lost passport or luggage, missed flights, illness). A bit more attention could have been paid to the bridal couple who want a truly unique, nontraditional approach (rather than the typical reception hall, for example--what about museums, historic houses, arboretums, or other less conventional sites?), but even so, much of the information here will be relevant. In fact, a perusal of the book makes it hard to imagine planning a wedding without it. Madeline Barillo's Wedding Sourcebook covers certain subjects in even more depth, but its more formal presentation makes it far less user friendly; this planner is meant to be toted along and written in. --Amy Handy

1 out of 5 stars Too Traditional   April 10, 2008
I found this planner to be way too traditional. I got the feeling it was written in the 50's when I went through it. Also very 80's themed even though it was supposed to be redone in 2000. Good only for very traditional weddings.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent wedding planner full of great, useful information   November 25, 2007
I am a flamenco guitarist and I do 15 to 20 weddings each year. I bought this book to inform myself of some of the options couples have in terms of various elements of the ceremony, as well as to know some helpful tips to give them in their quest to create the wedding they want.

This book discusses several options and contains a lot of very helpful information on booking the vendors they need, musicians, caterers, florists, photographers, wedding coordinators and consultants, as well as booking the location as well as a host of other excellent tips.

I highly recommend this book to brides and grooms. It cannot contain information on your local vendors and locations as it would grow to be the size of an encyclopedia, but it does provide a wealth of very useful tips and checklists/organization sheets to keep track of the information you gather during the planning and hiring.

There are many useful suggestions for seating relatives, some of whom may not have a comfortable relationship, a tool kit of sorts for brides the day of the wedding which is likely to solve most any small problem arising from dresses and other possible mishaps, cost cutting suggestions, duties for wedding party (best men and bridesmaids), gift exchanging and a host of other advice that will be appreciated by the bride and groom.

There are also ceremony suggestions for several major religious groups, Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Orthodox, Protestant and more. There are even some thoughtful suggestions on booking a honeymoon, where and when the deals may be found.

There really isn't a lot this book doesn't cover.

5 out of 5 stars Great for those who know what they want   August 30, 2005
This planner is great for the bride that already knows what they want for their wedding and where they want it to be. I just needed something that provided all the checklist and forms, I didn't need an idea book and this one is perfect for that. Give plenty of space to fill things out and all the details I needed.

I reccommend this to anyone who knows what type of wedding they want and simply needs a guideline and checklist.

5 out of 5 stars Helps you keep your sanity!   February 28, 2003

I got many "wedding-planning" type book at my engagement, but this was by-far the best! My husband's aunt gave it to me ... It's a workbook type thing that takes you through everything step-by-step, and it's great to keep afterwards as a momento. We've been married 5 years now and I still look at it from time to time.

3 out of 5 stars Thick Planning Resource   September 8, 2002

You need a planner and it might as well be this one. It includes every possible form and list you will ever need for your wedding. If you're having trouble putting it all together, this will help you organize.

That said, it's a good planner but don't look to it for guidance as far as the details of your wedding are concerned. You will need something else (bridal magazine, etc) to help you locate a site, interview possibilities, and compare prices. This book literally will give you a place to organize after you have selected all the components of your wedding. It only helps you plan and organize what you have already chosen.

In addition to the forms and lists, there are chapters written by the author. Tatsui-D'Arcy simply glazes over different parts of your wedding presenting the traditional stance and a few modern variations. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of room to write notes outside of the forms and lists themselves.

The author does include some useful information as it relates to how those with blended families could write their invitations and how an engagement announcement can be written.
