Product Description
This 17th edition of Barrons GRE manual reflects recent Graduate Record Exams and presents six full-length model exams with all questions answered and explained. Tests are similar to recent actual GREs in length, question types, and degree of difficulty. The manual also reviews all GRE test topics: antonym, analogy, and sentence-completion questions, reading comprehension, analytical writing, quantitative comparison questions, data interpretation, and math. The enclosed CD-ROM contains computerized versions of the books subject reviews and practice tests.

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful if you have time before your exam!   January 6, 2009
This book was very very helpful in preparing me for the GRE exam! However, make sure that you have plenty enough time to go through everything. If you're short on time, I'd recommend just reviewing the math section.

5 out of 5 stars The book is never wrong   January 2, 2009
I have been working my way through this book over the past few weeks, largely focusing on the quantitative portions. To date, I've completed about 80% of all of the available quant questions, and I can say with complete certainty that the book is never wrong.

I've been wrong a few times, but it has always, without exception, been due to an oversight or error on my part and not a mistake in the text. I can't say that about very many preparation books that I've used in the past, and I've taken probably 20+ certification, licensing, and other examination tests in the last 10 years.

If you have the time and are willing to make an effort to work your way through the problem sets with this book, you will be rewarded. I scored a 590/740 on my first GRE attempt with only a partial scan through this book, and I'm shooting for a 700/800 on my second attempt in the next few weeks. With the quality of review this book provides, I'm definitely optimistic.

4 out of 5 stars Advice   December 31, 2008
Hi,
I am from Saudi Arabia.
I am advising you to prepare for GRE math test by start with "Kaplan GRE exam math workbook" after you finish from this book you will gain the basic knowledge of mathematics and make you more faster to solve math problems, then it best to you to start with math section in "Barron's GRE preparation" because the Barron book has advanced math and difficult questions which help you to become familiar with difficult questions in real GRE test.
For verbal preparation, I think the Barron is enough.
This is the best method for GRE test preparation.
Good Luck

4 out of 5 stars Barron's is the secret to success in GRE   December 16, 2008

It is a good investment to have a Barron's for GRE preparation. The book is well organized and the content is updated with each edition to match the current GRE. The Math is good but it is the verbal part that makes it worth having.

4 out of 5 stars Almost-40 perspective   November 10, 2008

I just took the GRE and am positive I got the verbal score I got because I reviewed the vocabulary lists in Barron's. If you review all the words and really learn the ones noted as appearing most frequently, you will be well-prepared for verbal. I crammed vocabulary in the last 10-14 days and got a 650 on verbal, which is more than I need for my program.

I did not find Barron's as helpful with the quantitative section. Having not seen math in neary 20 years, I had a lot of reviewing to do. I found the organization of the math chapters confusing, and the explanations incomprehensible at first. I bought GRE for Dummies and used that to review math, then used Barron's to supplement and to have more practice questions. The math review on the ETS GRE website is also good.

I don't know what the deal was with the practice tests from Barron's, but my scores on those were very low in comparison to the two you get from ETS when you register for the GRE. My scores using the GRE-provided practice tests were much more in line with my actual. I was feeling very discouraged after taking the Barron's practice tests, but I'm happy with my actual scores.
