Amazon.com Review
QBQ! by John G. Miller is a motivational primer aimed at purging the "blame, complaining, and procrastination" from the workplace. Miller believes that one of the hallmarks of today's business culture is a lack of personal accountability; he prescribes the cure in this series of short stories and personal observations drawn from his years of experience running his organizational development firm. His main point is that positive change begins with individuals changing themselves: "Instead of asking, 'When will others walk their talk?' let's walk our talk first." The result is choppy (39 chapters in 115 pages), and at times Miller's advice boils down to truism and cliche. Nevertheless, managers whose workplaces demand remedial, straightforward advice should find a useful tool here. --Harry C. Edwards

Product Description
Who Moved My Cheese? showed readers how to adapt to change.

Fish! helped raise flagging morale.

Execution guided readers to overcome the inability to get things done.

QBQ! The Question Behind the Question, already a phenomenon in its self-published edition, addresses the most important issue in business and society today: personal accountability.

The lack of personal accountability has resulted in an epidemic of blame, complaining, and procrastination. No organization-or individual-can achieve goals, compete in the marketplace, fulfill a vision, or develop people and teams without personal accountability.

The solution involves an entirely new approach. We can no longer ask, "Who dropped the ball?" "Why can't they do their work properly?" or "Why do we have to go through all these changes?" Instead, every individual has to ask the question behind the question: "How can I improve this situation?" "What can I contribute?" or "How can I make a difference?"

Succinct, insightful, and practical, QBQ! The Question Behind the Question provides a method for putting personal accountability into daily action, which can bring astonishing results: problems get solved, barriers come down, service improves, teamwork grows, and people adapt to change.

2 out of 5 stars Too many pages for such a small point   December 27, 2008
I bought this book because it was recommended by Dave Ramsey and it's the first of his recommendations that I was slightly disappointed with. This book has a great message, don't get my 2 stars wrong. I think everyone should have a sense of personal responsibility and accountability in all aspects of their lives.

The reason I give this book 2 stars is because I believe you can get just as much out of reading the reviews as you can from buying the book. It's a short book and a quick afternoon read - but for some reason it took the author a whole book just to say more or less two things:

1) Start taking responsibility for your lives
2) Stop asking "why me?" or playing the blame game and instead start asking "what or how can I fix this? or "what can I do to help in this situation?"

I truly believe the main points to this book could be summed up in a well-written pamphlet. I found the book to be incredibly redundant, however I suppose if taking responsibility for yourself is a new concept to you, maybe you need to reread it over and over again...

5 out of 5 stars Great book-recipe for success   December 16, 2008
This is a great book for personal growth. It would serve business owners well. It gets to the heart of personal accountability and highlights the current trend of blaming others for everything.

4 out of 5 stars great   December 7, 2008
we used it at our company to help get everyone on the same page as far as taking care of your internal and external customers.

5 out of 5 stars great book everyone should read   November 18, 2008
Great book and it helps you learn how to be a great person and excell in all aspects of life.

5 out of 5 stars QBQ! The Question Behind the Question   November 17, 2008
One of the test readers of my book and audio book, Managing Thought: How Do Your Thoughts Rule Your World?, showed me this book after reading my chapter: Shaping Thought-Asking Powerful Questions. I absolutely love this book. It's all about taking responsibility for the quality and quantity of our lives and circumstances and offers great suggestions on how to ask questions that lead us in a direction that truly serves our purpose. QBQ: The Question Behind the Question is a quick, enjoyable read and a powerful guide and reference tool for choosing powerful thoughts.
