Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Butch O'Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard-living ex-homicide cop, he's the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world-to engage in the turf war with the lessers. His heart belongs to a female vampire, Marissa, an aristocratic beauty who's way out of his league. And if he can't have her, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers.

But fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he's found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him.

5 out of 5 stars A Decent Addition to a Wonderful Series   December 26, 2008
This is the fourth installment of J.R Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and it is a fairly fulfilling read.

The Plot:

Once human cop Butch O'neal struggles to find his place in the vampire world, and to win the heart of aristocrat Marissa. There romance is complicated by Butch's haunted past as well as a more recently acquired curse, courtesy of the Omega.

The Best Parts:

Butch is a seriously cool, every-guy kind of character. He's funny, friendly, and loyal. He is also strong and spiritual. Watching him find his place in the world is engaging.

Marissa goes from being weak and pitiable, to strong and compassionate. She becomes far more likable than she was in the earlier books, and she is easy to relate to.

The romance is beautiful. The action is entertaining and serves the plot well. Theres never a boring moment.

5 out of 5 stars Lover Revealed   December 24, 2008
If you like romance books at all, you have to read the entire "Black Dagger Brotherhood" Series by JR Ward. This series is the "BEST". It comes with strong characters and a never before written back drop. I just reccommend to start with the first in the series and progress from there.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Delicious   December 13, 2008
I just stumbled on to JR Ward. I am a die hard Kresley Cole fan and have resisted reading alot of other paranormal authors because they just did not get the job done for me as Ms. Cole. In frustration for waiting for the new Cole book, I picked up Ms. Ward and have not regretted it since. I just finished Butches story Lover Revealed and as with most marks of a great book, snippets of the book just keep popping into my head. Butch is the former cop and a human living among the Black Dagger Brotherhood. More so because he cannot go home because he knows too much about them, but also because in a weird sort of way, he feels extremely connected to the oversized warriors. Especially one brother in particular Vishous. Butch and Vishouse become roomates (in an earlier book) and develop quite a kinship that (without giving away too much) is deep and very connected physically, mentally and emotionally. Vishous has in fact taken quite a shine to Butch and ways that some readers may find a bit unseemly for a "paranormal romance". Butch meets Marissa and his heart is given to her even though it seems as if they can never realize their feelings for each other in the very demonstrative ways that mated and fated couples do in the Brotherhood.

Now while I wont get in to dissecting the entire story, suffice it to say it is a truly wonderful one. The relationship between Butch and Vishous is beautiful to observe as a reader because in today's society where only manly men are considered viable, Ms. Ward has shown an adept hand in crafting the relationship and that adeptness (IMO) transcends the "ick" factor many readers may have when coming to understand the relationship between Butch and Vishous.

My two negative comments are on Marissa and those dang lessers. While ultimately she did quite well in the story demonstrating some backbone, her waffling between being a true mated woman to this wispy, wimpy alarmist got under my skin. However, she is several hundred years old and just recently liberated from her brothers household so I gave her alot of leeway.

As for the lessers, they always seem to crop up in the midst of a story highpoint. But thankfully their parts are limited to short pages.

All in all pick the series up, not one book in the series has disappointed me so far and I don't think the remaining will

3 out of 5 stars Ruined Butch   December 10, 2008
The story line:

Butch O'Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard living, ex-homicide cop, he's the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world- to engage in the turf war with the lessers. He's got nothing to lose. His heart belongs to a female vampire, an aristocratic beauty who's way out of his league. If he can't have her, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers...

Fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, found by a miracle, the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him...

Spoilers:

Oh poor, poor Butch. He was highly likable in all the other books, one of my favorite characters actually in Ward's brotherhood. Sadly, this book turns him into a total baby, who cries, and complains through most of the novel. Marrisa is equally annoying - I know she has lived a secluded life, but man could she be anymore clueless!?!

4 out of 5 stars I liked it!   December 6, 2008
This is Butch's story. Butch is a human cop who has befriended the Vamp brothers in Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

The story starts off with Butch being caught by the Big Lesser, the bad guys in the series, who places a part of himself in Butch to catch the brothers- turning him into a Trojan horse as it were. (The way the Big O does it I found to be idiotic, but whatever).

Of course the scheme doesn't work because the brother who has the other half of Butch's soon to be discovered power- the enigmatic Vishous- cleanses him of the infecting evil ... and continues to do so, as Butch's new found power is to consume the Lessers (by "inhaling" them), leaving Butch with no way to flush them from his system on his own.

In the meantime, he has to settle the conflict within himself over the love he has for the sweetly innocent Marissa- former fiance of Wrath, the King of the Vamps.

What I liked most about Butch and Marissa's story was the fact they knew from the beginning they loved each other and, once they cleared up some previous miscommunications, all they wanted to do was be together. No arguing or snotty attitudes, they wanted to *be together*. Of course outside pressure keeps them apart, but that's the way it should be in my eyes. Star-crossed lovers are way more fun then a whiny heroine who can't make up her mind if she wants him or not!

So in the end it wasn't a bad read, considering Butch's story was the one I cared less to read about. Mark of a good author I suppose.
