A Fun Gift December 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't know if they changed the description of this item since most of the reviews were written, but the book is exactly what the description says. This is a paperback about 8" x 8" and nearly a quarter inch thick. The information in the book is generic information about population trends in the 20th century with all the charts and graphs comparing the average trend with your family name. As the description says, all the information in this book comes from census records, military records, and immigration information, with some international census data. There are no naratives about your family name but it does list names of the earliest immigrants and the name of the boat they came over in.
As for the price, $30 would be expensive for a generic book this size but because of the fact that it includes information specific to your family, I don't think it's unreasonable. If you're expecting a report on the history of your name and the names of all your ancestors, try hiring someone to research your family name. This is a fun book that'll probably just make you more curious about your history.
disappointed March 16, 2008 28 out of 28 found this review helpful
I am highly, highily disappointed to say the least of this book. I should've read the reviews before I purchased this book, if I did that I certainly would have not bought it. There is very little facts associated with my name. Out of the 85 pages in it only about 15 have anything to do with my name. This book cost $29 I think it's not even worth $5. I feel the advertisement of this book is misleading.
The most disappointing purchase I have ever made January 18, 2008 89 out of 89 found this review helpful
Perhaps it is my fault. Perhaps I did not read carefully enough; but for the price, I was expecting a full-sized paper cover coffee table book. I ordered 2 of these. One for my parents and one for my wife (re; her maiden name) as Christmas gifts. Imagine my shock when the gifts were opened and out came a flimsy paper back "pamphlet". The content was somewhat interesting though certainly not an exhaustive study of the 'name' in history. It appears to be a Cliff's Notes version of History with specific 'names' and dates plopped into certain fields. Maybe as a study guide for middle school students this would be quite nice; but don't make my mistake--this book is not suitable as a gifted for relatives and friends. My very first disappointment from Amazon, so I am doing well on that score.... but doubly surprising because it was not expected.
Disappointingly small! January 14, 2008 60 out of 61 found this review helpful
This should not be called a book- it is more like a tiny leaflet you might pick up in an exhibition - for free. I cannot believe that Amazon is selling it for $29.95. In fact if I had had more time and it wasn't a Christmas gift for my father I would have definitely returned it. To be honest I barely looked at the contents as I was so upset at how insignificant it was in size. I would never, ever recommend it and I look forward to an explanation from Amazon as to how they can justify placing such an high price tag on such a trivial publication.

A complete waste of money.Does not live up to its name.A nonsense book that is really an embarassment. The title does not deliver the content expected.
