Product Description
How do you determine RIGHT from WRONG? Is there really a single benchmark of values that fits all generations, political parties, and cultures? What is the Christian response to this question? In the world, rapidly growing technologies, media influences, and the always changing morals make it difficult to keep track of acceptable behavior. Content on television, radio or the Internet today bring into the open images, subjects and ideas that were considered immoral or taboo only a few years ago. Can the Bible be used to determine right and wrong in the 21st Century? Can we hold on to old fashioned values and expect those ideas to sustain us today? Dr. Bell's analysis may well surprise you! His new book, The Love Ethic, is sometimes provocative, occasionally humorous, and at times controversial. It draws from a wealth of historical and current events.everything from Martin Luther to "I Robot" and down to the age of the Digital Natives. Want help in figuring out what's right and what's wrong? The Love Ethic may be for you!

5 out of 5 stars The Love Ethic   October 19, 2008
The Love Ethic Excellent book! Terry is able to take complex topics and concepts and explain them in understandable terms. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to rethink "Love" and "Ethics" in a new paradigm that makes one want to practice the kind of love that is sound, strong, moral and true to a Christian and biblical viewpoints. I was a philosophy minor in college and walked away with only a bunch of names, a few nuggets ("I think, therefore I am") and absolutely no ethical anchors other than what I already believed about the Bible. One of the strengths of Terry Bell's book is that he takes complicated ethical positions and simplifies them for average people like me. (I think this is the first time I've understood what the "categorical imperative" is!) Rather than take apart each ethic, Bell simply states why each is categorically inadequate. He does a particularly good job with Fletcher's Situation Ethics. Also fascinating is his personal encounter with Viktor Frankl. Bell is extremely well read, gifted in simplifying complicated philosophy, and, in spite of his obvious erudite background, manages to bring the reader to the only conclusion a logical person can make: "...A human being exists on a much different dimension (than a highly evolved machine), empowered by the Transcendent, enlivened by the Eternal, made meaningful by Agape." This book ought to be mandatory reading for all college students.

5 out of 5 stars Thought provoking read!!   August 15, 2008

Definitely a must read! This book gives us an excellent viewpoint for our present society in a world of mixed messages. Bell takes deep content and makes it easy to comprehend through shared life experiences, philosophy, scripture as well as humor to provide a modern day application to Christianity. His writing evokes thought and discussion. This book is a great recommendation for a book study or group read. It is something you read and want to talk with others about! The only thing that would make this better would be a book study guide to go a long with it.
